Dordt def. Indiana Tech 9-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt broke through for five runs in the second inning on the way to a 9-1, five-inning win over Indiana Tech on Monday in Tucson, Arizona.
Dordt scored a run in the first when Hailey Heeringa singled in Jessica Flaherty.
The five-run second inning got started with Hannah Sikkema homerun. Marissa Vanden Berg had a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and Jessica Flaherty followed with a three-run homerun for a 6-0 lead.
Dordt then scored three runs in the third inning, getting all of the runs after two outs were recorded.
Indiana Tech was able to get a run in the fifth inning but couldn’t get another to extend the game and the contest ended with the eight-run difference rule after five innings.
Dordt had a 9-3 hits advantage.
Jessica Flaherty had three hits with four runs batted in, a single, double and homerun.
Jessica Oules had a pair of singles and two runs scored for the Defenders.
Abby Kraemer allowed one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts and faced 19 batters—four over the minimum in securing the win.
