Dordt defeats Simpson 4-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and went on to defeat Simpson (California) 4-2 in non-conference softball play on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona.
Dordt struck for two runs in the third inning as Marissa Vanden Berg scored on a Hailey Heeringa single and Hannah Sikkema singled in Addison Hansen with two outs.
Simpson got one back in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game.
Dordt’s Emma Veenstra delivered a single to centerfield with runners at second and third and two outs in the fifth inning for a 4-2 lead.
Simpson had runners in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but Abby Kraemer was able to sidestep trouble on the mound and secured the 4-2 victory.
Kraemer got the pitching win while scattering eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Marissa VandenBerg, Emma Veenstra and Natalie Fopma all had two singles and Veenstra had the two runs batted in.
Dordt had a slight 9-8 hits advantage.
Dordt is now 9-3 this season.
Dordt will face Texas Wesleyan and Indiana Tech on Monday, March 9 in Tucson, Arizona.
