Dordt def. Midland 14-10


The Dordt Defender baseball team earned a split with Midland on Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska by taking game two of their doubleheader by a 14-10 score.

Dordt scored four in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead after allowing a run in the first and two in the top of the second.  Dordt was the home team in the doubleheader originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Center.

Steve Tiersma’s double plated two and David Laurenti’s single knocked in another run. Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning with John Emerson knocking in Austin Pullar with a double.

Dordt added three more in the fourth inning as Pfafman had two runs batted in with a single and Laurenti had a solo homerun that started the Dordt scoring in the frame.

Leading 8-4 Dordt allowed two in the fifth inning but answered with four runs on three hits with Laurenti knocking a double and Lucas Nelson batted in two with hits double. Pfafman also figured into the scoring with a sacrifice fly.  The fourth run in the inning came on a passed ball.

Dordt added two more in the sixth inning and then held on as Midland scored on the seventh and two in the eighth along with one in the ninth for the 14-10 final.


Dordt had 15 hits and Midland had 16.

Tyce Marquez had three singles and Laurenti was a triple shy of the cycle while going 3-5 at the plate.

Pfafman, Emerson and Nelson all had two hits and Pfafman knocked in three runs.

Laurenti and Marquez both had three runs scored.

Willem Hoekstra earned his first pitching win of the season while going five and a third innings with six strikeouts and he allowed six runs on ten hits.

Dordt relied on its bullpen to close the game with four pitchers covering the final four and two-third innings and they scattered six hits and allowed four runs.

Dordt is 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC.


Dordt will compete in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, March 7 as it begins its Spring Break games.
