Dordt defeats Texas Wesleyan 1-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender softball team used solid defense and timely hitting for a 1-0 win over Texas Wesleyan in Tucson, Arizona on Monday.
The Defenders got the only run of the game in the sixth inning when Haylee Heims singled to rightfield, scoring Chandler Schemper with two outs in the inning. Dordt stranded two runners and it as the only tie Dordt had multiple hits in an inning.
Texas Wesleyan left runners stranded runners in each of the seven innings and was unable to take advantage of a Dordt fielding error in the bottom of the fourth inning.
THE NUMBERS
Dordt was outhit 9-4 but committed just one error while Texas Wesleyan ad three.
Haylee Heims had a pair of singles with a run batted in and Bailey Jonker and Addison Hansen each had singles for the Defenders.
Natalie Fopma was issued Dordt’s only walk of the game.
Fopma got the pitching win and went the distance with four strikeouts and no walks issued.
