SCORE

Dordt defeats Roosevelt (Illinois) 2-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

A run in the second and another in the third proved to be more than enough for the Dordt Defender softball team as it beat Roosevelt (Illinois) 2-0 in non-conference play at Tucson, Arizona on Saturday afternoon.

Dordt scored its first run on a double steal with Hannah Sikkema coming in from third base with two outs in the second inning. Chandler Schemper knocked in Jessica Oules with a sacrifice fly in the third inning for all of Dordt’s damage.

Roosevelt’s best chance to score came in the second inning when it stranded two runners.  Roosevelt also had a chance in the fourth inning but was unable to capitalize on two Dordt errors.

THE NUMBERS

Schemper, Hannah Sikkema and Hailey Heeringa had Dordt’s three hits and all were singles. Heeringa also worked for a walk.

Natalie Fopma got the complete game win with a walk and three hits surrendered. Fopma also had three strikeouts.
