HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender softball team made it a sweep of the Presentation Saints in non-conference softball on Thursday, February 13 at Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Dordt got on the board with five in the first inning with Erin Bredemus clubbing a three-run inside the park homerun to get the scoring started. Natalie Fopma provided a two-run single with two outs as well to score Hannah Sikkema and Jessica Oules.
After Presentation went in order Dordt added a run on a Hailey Heeringa single to score Marissa VandenBerg who reached with a double to start the inning.
The two teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings with Dordt putting the game out of reach in the fifth inning with Ella Koster knocking in one run with a double and Natalie Fopma knocked in Kayla Zevenbergen with a double of her own. Emma Veenstra ended the scoring with a single that got two runs across.
Dordt scored ten runs on 13 hits while Presentation was shutout on three hits and committed two errors.
Abby Kramer earned her first collegiate win with a three hit shutout and walked two with five strikeouts.
Marissa Vanden Berg had a double and two singles and scored two runs.
Hailey Heeringa and Hannah Sikkema each had two singles with Sikkema scoring twice. Sikkema also reached on a walk and stole a base.
Ella Koster and Natalie Fopma each had doubles to go with Bredemus’s homerun for extra base hits. Bredemus also walked twice.
Dordt will play four games over the next two days in Aberdeen. On Friday the Defenders will face Valley City State and Dakota State at 10:00 and noon and will play Presentation and Dickinson State on Saturday.
