MidAmerica Nazarene def. Dordt 7-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
MidAmerica Nazarene scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in defeating Dordt 7-1 in non-conference softball on Friday in Olathe, Kansas.
Dordt scored its run in the first inning when Marissa VandenBerg led off the inning with a double. Chandler Schemper followed with a single and VandenBerg scored. The Defenders ended up leaving two stranded in the inning.
Four runs on four hits followed for MidAmerica Nazarene in the home half of the first and the hosts added a run in the second and two in the sixth while Dordt was limited to one hit the rest of the game, a single by Natalie Fopma in the fourth inning.
Dordt was outhit 9-4 and all of the runs scored by the two teams were earned.
Dordt got singles by VandenBerg, Schemper, Fopma and Hailey Heeringa and VandenBerg had Dordt’s only walk.
Natalie Fopma pitched four innings and allowed five runs with four strikeouts and two walks issued.
Haylee Heims pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on two hits and walked one.
