HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt University hockey team secured a weekend sweep with an 8-6 victory over Kansas on Saturday. The win improved Dordt to 3-3 on the year.
The Jayhawks started the scoring with four minutes left in the first period. Grant Anderson finished an Andrew Fischer assist to give Kansas a 1-0 lead. Dane Johnson tacked another on with 44 seconds to go in the period giving the Jayhawks a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
Trevor Olson made it 3-0 in favor of the Jayhawks two minutes into the second period.
The Defenders scored three unanswered goals to tie the game midway through the second. Logan Visser scored first for Dordt with twelve minutes to play. Eli Visscher scored three minutes later and Fred Bullock tied things at three with eight minutes to play in the period.
Johnson scored his second of the game with seven minutes to play in the second and gave Kansas a 4-3 lead.
Sam De Jong tied the game at four with six minutes left and Eli Visscher gave Dordt a 5-4 lead two minutes later.
Bullock found the back of the net for a second time early in the third period to make it 6-4 in favor of Dordt.
The Jayhawks pulled back within one as Nico Wazerstrum scored his first of the game. Anderson tied the game at six with 13 minutes to play.
Visscher completed his hat trick with two minutes to go in regulation. Jaren Brue made it 8-6 a minute later and secured the victory for Dordt.
Five different players scored for Dordt in the win.
Bryce Andry had 42 saves in the victory.
Conner Smith made 23 saves in the loss.
The loss dropped Kansas to 5-5 overall.
Dordt will play in Colorado next weekend against Air Force and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
