Dordt def. Nebraska Christian 87-42
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team had little trouble in dispatching Nebraska Christian on Saturday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska. The Defenders built a double-digit lead midway through the first half and rolled to a 45 point win for their 15th win of the season.
A three-point basket by Caleb Harmsen with 10:40 left in the half put the Defenders up 24-10 at the midpoint of the half. The Defenders proceeded to outscore the hosts 28-17 the remainder of the half for a 52-27 halftime lead.
The lead quickly grew to 30 and Dordt outscored the Sentinels 35-15 in the second half.
Dordt was 26-43 from the field for 61 percent success and converted 12-18 three-point shots for 67 percent. Dordt also converted 23-31 free throws.
Nebraska Christian was 18-57 from the field and 6-22 from the three-point line while going 0-4 from the free throw line.
Dordt had a 32-28 rebounding edge and forced 16 turnovers while committing 11.
Marcus Winterfeld led four Dordt players in double figures. Winterfeld was 5-6 from the field and had six rebounds.
Jesse Jansma had 13 points on 4-5 shooting and Cade Bleeker and Garrett Franken each had 11 points.
Zach Bussard came off the bench for eight points and four rebounds.
Caleb Harmsen and Chad Barkema each had six points.
Dordt is now 15-5 and Nebraska Christian slips to 9-7.
