Dordt def. Aquinas 4-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt scored two in the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and scored a 4-2 win over Aquinas on Thursday in Tucscon, Arizona.
Dordt got on the board with a run in the second inning when Brooklyn Van Noort doubled in a Hailey Heeringa who had reached earlier in the inning after being hit by a pitch.
Aquinas got two runs on three hits in the third inning for a 2-1 lead but Dordt answered with Marissa Vanden Berg scoring on an error.
Carley De Roin started the fourth inning with a homerun to break the 2-2 tie and a Hope Veldkamp triple sent Natalie Vos in for a 4-2 lead.
Aquinas finally got a run on in the seventh inning but couldn’t sustain the rally and left the runner stranded at first when the inning ended.
Dordt outhit Aquinas 8-7.
The Defenders had eight different players with a hit each.
Four of Dordt’s hits were extra base hits with Marissa Vanden Berg and Brooklyn Van Noort both recording doubles. Van Noort had Dordt’s only walk of the day.
Hope Veldkamp had a triple and Carley De Roin had a triple.
Tianna Soodsma earned the win, her 40th of her career and had six strikeouts with no walks.
