HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt University women's soccer team finished its regular season with a 5-0 loss to Midland on Saturday. The Defenders will begin conference tournament play on Thursday in an attempt to earn a National Tournament berth.
The loss gave Dordt a 7-4-1 conference record to finish the season.
Bailey Locano broke the deadlock in the seventh minute to give Midland a 1-0 lead. Elena Perez found the back of the net four minutes later to stretch the lead to two.
The Defenders settled in for the rest of the first half and kept Midland scoreless. Dordt was unable to create any significant chances over the half hour and went into halftime trailing by two.
Jericha Fox put the lead at three in the 75th minute. Nayeli Rodriguez scored the first of her two goals in the 79th minute and capped off the scoring five minutes later to give the Warriors the 5-0 victory.
DeLynne Zevenbergen had seven saves in the loss.
Dordt was outshot 22-3 in the defeat.
Four different players scored for the Warriors.
The win gave Midland a 11-1 record in the GPAC.
Dordt will play in a GPAC tournament game on Thursday. The location and time is yet to be determined.
