HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men's volleyball team swept Culver-Stockton in the third game of their spring break road trip.
Culver-Stockton took an early 4-1 lead in set one. Dordt found its footing and rallied to a 14-7 advantage. The Wildcats fought their way back and tied things at 19. The Defenders survived the rally and took set one 26-24.
Culver-Stockton started strong in set two with a 7-2 run. Several Wildcat errors allowed the Defenders to take a 12-11 lead. Dordt never let the Wildcats back in and won set two 25-21.
Set three stayed close at the beginning. The teams went back-and-forth and were tied at 12. A 10-1 run by Dordt broke the set open and led to a 25-16 victory.
Garret Vander Zee and Ben Tiemersma continued their strong play and led Dordt with 14 kills each. Vander Zee also added eight digs.
Austin Clark led the Defenders with 31 assists.
Austen Scammon had 16 digs to lead all players.
Erin Lee had eight kills for the Wildcats.
Jayden Happel had 15 assists.
Daniel Fohey managed five kills and eight digs.
COACH HANSON SAID
"Against a competitively matched team, we demonstrated a full match focus of tenacity and skill execution. Very fun to see our guys play this well and to do so on the road in an environment where we had to block out distractions. This win feels great because of how our guys played."
The men will take on Judson at 3:00 p.m. in Lacrosse, Wisconsin on Saturday.
