Hannibal-LaGrange def. Dordt 9-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
A six run fourth inning pushed the Dordt baseball team to its first win of the season, a 9-1 decision over Hannibal-LaGrange in game two of the teams’ tripleheader on Thursday, February 14.
Dordt scored on each in the first and second innings with Logan Cline scoring on a passed ball in the first. Cline was instrumental in the second inning run after Jason Holwerda got a two-out single and stole second and was knocked in by a Cline double.
Things got out of hand for Hannibal-LaGrange in the fourth inning as Dordt scored six runs on five hits and an error for an 8-0 lead. Cline doubled in two runs in the innings and Jon Bonfils doubled in a run as well. Two wild pitches and a passed ball figured prominently into the other three runs.
Hannibal LaGrange averted the shutout in the sixth with a run after Dordt scored a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Cline was 4-4 at the plate with four runs batted in on two doubles and two singles and he scored two runs.
Chris Schrieber had a pair of singles and a run batted in as Dordt outhit Hannibal LaGrange 12-3.
Justin Bond and Jason Holwerda scored two runs each and Cody Veach and Jon Bonfils each had a double for Dordt.
Isaac Vander Hart went five innings and allowed one hit with six strikeouts and he walked none.
Kevin Fokkema relieved and went two frames and was charged with a run on two hits.
