HOW IT HAPPENED
Graceland defeated Dordt in their second match of the day at the De Witt Gym on Saturday, January 26.
The visitors were in control of set one and won 25-15. Set two saw the Defenders battle to ties on eight different occasions up to a 10-10 deadlock but back to back points put Graceland up 15-12 and the visitors held at least a three point lead in winning 25-19.
The Defenders were down as many as seven with a 19-12 deficit before rallying to within 23-22 as Ben Tiemersma recorded a service ace and forced Graceland to call a timeout. The Yellowjackets got back to back kills to finish the set and the match with a 25-22 victory.
Graceland had a 42-27 kill advantage and a .281-.070 kill efficiency edge.
Dordt scored six points on blocks while Graceland had five points on blocks.
Dordt had a 4-3 ace serve edge and recorded 33 digs.
Ben Tiemersma led Dordt with 11 kills and one solo block.
Garret Vander Zee had six kills and eight digs.
Austen Scammon had a team high nine digs and Tyler Postma put up 24 assists.
Matt Romero had a team high 11 digs and Brenden Danyluck put up 27 assists and had one ace serve.
Dordt will host Briar Cliff on Wednesday, January 30.
Dordt is 0-2 while Graceland improves to 2-1.
