Recap

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt College men's volleyball team surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Morningside on Wednesday. The loss concluded the Defenders regular season.

Dordt continued it's usual strong opening set play and took a 9-4 lead. The Mustangs hung around and trailed 19-16 late in the set. Dordt finished on a 6-1 run to take set one 25-17.

Neither team was able to pull away in the second set. Morningside led 11-7 part way through, but Dordt tied things at 16. It was back and forth for the remaining few points. Tyler Postma and Ben Tiemersma scored the final two points for the Defenders and helped earn the 25-23 set two victory.

Morningside buckled down in the third set. A service error by the Mustangs made it 11-9 in their favor. Dordt couldn't create any sort of momentum off of the error and were outscore 14-7 over the rest of the set.

Set four followed a similar pattern. The Defenders tied it at 14, but Morningside felt in control the entire time. A 3-0 run after the tie provided enough separation for the rest of the set. The Mustangs eventually won 25-21.

The final set looked like it was heading in Dordt's favor. A 3-0 lead to start looked like the momentum the Defenders needed. A timeout by the Mustangs led to five straight points for Morningside. Dordt tied things at seven, but couldn't retake the lead. Morningside continued its strong play and won 15-10.
