The Dordt College men's volleyball team dropped a conference match 3-1 to Morningside on Wednesday.

The first set went the way of the Defenders despite six lead changes. Three late blocks by Ben Tiemersma and Tyler Postma gave Dordt the 29-27 victory.

Dordt hung around early in the second set, but Morningside was able to break the things open halfway through and take the 25-17 victory.

The Defenders had a one point lead late in set three, but couldn't hang on long enough. Morningside took a 24-23 lead and Coach Hanson called a timeout. A service error by Morningside tied things at 24, but two straight kills by the Mustangs gave them the two point victory.

A late run in set four wasn't enough to get the Defenders a lead and Morningside took the 25-20 win.

Ben Tiemersma led Dordt with 19 kills.

Tyler Postma had 36 assists, nine digs and eight blocks.

Levi Ewald had 12 digs to lead Dordt and Austen Scammon added 10.

Jimmy Aschenbrenner and Jake Brand each had 15 kills to lead the Mustangs.

Caden Toben had 59 assists and nine digs.

“We had spurts of strong play with high performance and execution of our system tonight. We needed longer spurts and we needed to keep their middles from scoring as often as they did.”

Dordt will face Briar Cliff at home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
