HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Briar Cliff on Tuesday.
Dordt took a 13-12 lead early in set one, but the Chargers went on a three point run a few plays later to go up 18-15. Briar Cliff stretched the lead to five, but Dordt came back and cut the score to 22-20. The Defenders couldn't pull any closer and lost set one 25-22.
Things were tied at 16 midway through set two, but another three point run gave Briar Cliff all the cushion they needed. The Chargers took set two 25-22.
The Defenders had an 18-15 lead in set three, but a few service errors by Dordt and kills from Briar Cliff gave the Chargers a 22-21 lead. Ben Tiemersma tied the set at 25 with a kill. An attack error by the Chargers gave Dordt a 27-26 lead. Briar Cliff had three straight kills and they were enough to take set three 29-27 and complete the sweep.
Ben Tiemersma led the way for Dordt with 17 kills. He also added four digs.
Garret Vander Zee had 10 kills and six digs.
Tyler Postma carried Dordt with 32 assists and seven digs.
Senior Austen Scammon also added 10 digs.
Dordt will travel to Sioux City next Wednesday to take on Briar Cliff at 7:00 p.m.
