Northwestern defeats Dordt 10-5


The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a 10-5 decision to Northwestern in Orange City in game one of their doubleheader on Tuesday night, April 9.

Northwestern scored a run each in the first three innings but erupted for five in the top of the fourth.

Singles by Steve Tiersma, Andrew Pullar and Jason Holwerda loaded the bases and a hit batsmen sent Tiersma in for the first run of the Defender frame. Chris Schrieber than cleared the bases with a home run.  Dordt looked poised for ore with a Parker Hamann single followed by a Austin Pullar double but Hamann was thrown out at home and Northwestern got the third out after a pitching change.

Northwestern retook the lead with three runs in the fourth inning with two outs on a homerun and added two more runs each in the fifth and sixth innings for the final of 10-5.


Dordt had eight hits with Schrieber and Tiersma each with two hits.

Austin Pullar had a double and Schrieber his homerun to account for Dordt’s extra base hits.

Lucas Nelson took the loss and went four innings and was charged with six runs with a strikeout and four bases on balls issed.

Logan Horne pitched in relief and allowed four runs on two hits with a strikeout.
