Midland defeats Dordt 2-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midland got a pair of one-run innings and held on to defeat Dordt 2-0 in GPAC play on Friday night in Sioux Center.
Midland got a run on two hits in the second inning and then added a run on one hit in the top of the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.
Dordt threatened in the bottom of the fifth with two hit batsmen to lead off the inning and a two-out walk to load the bases. A strikeout ended the inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning Dordt Chris Schrieber singled and advanced on an error. A wild pitch advanced the runner to third but the inning ended on a strikeout after a walk put runners at the corners.
Dordt had two runners on in the eighth inning as well with a Lucas Nelson single and an Austin Pullar walk but back to back strikeouts ended the inning and Dordt was retired in order in the ninth to end the game.
THE DORDT NUMBERS
Logan Horne took the tough luck loss with seven innings pitched and walked two with three strikeouts and he gave up four hits.
Jadon Vander Molen pitched two innings and struck out two and faced the minimum of six batters.
Lucas Nelson and Chris Schrieber each had one single.
Midland had a 4-2 hits advantage.
Dordt had four walks to Midland’s two.
Midland committed the only error of the game.
Dordt is 4-13 overall and 1-9 in the league.
Midland is 10-15 overall and 3-5 in the league.
Midland will host Dordt on Monday, April 1 in a doubleheader.
