Dordt defeats Midland 5-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders got a complete game pitching effort from Isaac Vander Hart and had timely hitting on the way to a 5-2 win over the Midland Warriors in game one of their doubleheader on Friday in Sioux Center.
Dordt got two in the first when Logan Cline started the inning with a double and scored on a Chris Schrieber single. Austin Pullar scored the second run after reaching on a walk and he came across on David Laurenti’s single to centerfield.
Midland answered with two runs on three hits in the second inning. Dordt took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning with Lucas Nelson working for a walk and he would come in to score on an Andrew Pullar sacrifice fly for the second out of the inning.
Midland to a runner as far as third in the fourth inning but Vander Hart got out of trouble with a strikeout. Dordt threatened with a bases loaded bottom of the fourth with one out but a pair of flyouts ended the threat.
Midland had another threat in the top of the sixth but a strike out-throw out double play settled the Defenders on defense. Dordt got two unearned runs for insurance in the bottom of the sixth with David Laurenti putting the ball in play with the bases loaded and one out and two runs scored when Midland’s third baseman was unable to field the ball cleanly and the ball squirted into the outfield.
Midland was retired in the seventh inning with a double play ending the game after a walk put a runner on first with one out.
Vander Hart won his second game of the season with seven strikeouts, three walks and five hits allowed.
Chris Schrieber was 3-4 with a run batted in and three singles.
Logan Cline was 2-4 with a double and a run scored and Jason Holwerda was 2-4 with a pair of singles.
David Laurenti and Andrew Pullar each had singles.
Dordt had a 10-5 hits advantage.
The only error of the game was committed by Midland.
Both teams had seven strikeouts and Dordt had five walks while Midland worked for three.
