Doane def. Dordt 11-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team saw a 4-1 advantage turn into a 6-4 deficit as Doane scored five in the fifth and another five in the sixth on the way to an 11-4 decision in game one of a doubleheader in Crete, Nebraska.
The Defenders scored one in the second inning as Dillon Branderhorst singled in Jason Holwerda. Doane got a run back in the third inning on two hits and the scored remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when Dordt got three runs on three hits with Tiersma plating a run with a single and Logan Cline had a triple to score two.
The Tigers came back with five runs in the fifth inning on three hits and then added five more in the sixth inning to make the final 11-4. The Tigers had eight hits in the fifth and sixth innings combined to pull away.
THE DORDT NUMBERS
Andrew Pullar had a single and a double and Steve Tiersma had two singles.
Logan Cline, Austin Pullar, Lucas Nelson and Dillon Branderhorst all had a hit with Cline recording a triple. Cline had two runs batted in.
Luke Drooger was the starter and took the loss with four and a third innings pitched. He had three strikeouts and allowed six runs on eight hits.
Cole Vande Vegte, Jadon Vander Molen and Nate Psyck all pitched in relief with Psyck pitching a scoreless seventh.
Doane had a 14-8 hits advantage and both teams had one error.
