HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss to Southwest Minnesota State on Monday.
Logan Horne started on the mound for Dordt and held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the first.
The Defenders took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Austin Pullar hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Logan Cline.
Dordt struck again in the top of the second off a single from Jason Holwerda that scored Cam Pfafman.
Horne kept Southwest Minnesota State scoreless again in the bottom of the second. The Defenders struggled in the third with the only hit coming from David Laurenti.
The Mustangs got things going in the top of the fourth. Jayden Fleck hit a home run off of Horne to start the rally. Matt Bezdicek scored due to a Dordt error. Robbie Smith hit a single that scored Tanner Strommen. A fly out to right field by Nathan Kuhn ended the inning.
Dordt tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth. Dillon Branderhorst singled to left field and scored Cody Veach.
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings.
Southwest Minnesota managed another three-runs in the eighth that gave them the edge. Bezdicek scored off of a Robbie Smith single. Kuhn hit a triple that sent Strommen and Smith home.
The Defenders couldn't create any more offense in the ninth and finished with a 6-3 loss.
Logan Horne, Austin Fokkema, Nate Psyck, Justin Bond and AJ Bosscher all pitched for Dordt.
Logan Cline led Dordt with four hits.

Four different players had two hits.
Nathan Kuhn led all players with two RBI.
The Defenders will take on Lourdes in a double-header on Tuesday. The first game begins at 12:00 with the second to immediately follow.
