Hannibal-LaGrange defeats Dordt 7-1


The Defender baseball team lost a 7-1 decision on Thursday in O’Fallon, Missouri and open the season with a 1-2 record after the triple header.

Hannibal-LaGrange had three in the first and three more in the fourth before taking a 7-0 lead with a run in the fifth.  Dordt got a run in the seventh to avert the shut out.

Steve Tiersma knocked in Parker Schutt as both players had doubles.


Dordt was outhit 10-5.

Chris Schrieber started and went three innings on the mound. Cole Vande Vegte went two and two-third and had three strikeouts. Both Schrieber and Van VandeVegte were charged with three runs.

Justin Bond and Austin Gallagher each had one inning pitched and each allowed two hits.

Jason Holwerda, Cam Pfafman and Dillon Branderhorst all had singles and Schutt and Tiersma had a double each.


Dordt is 1-2 and will next face Central Christian (Kansas) next weekend in McPherson, Kansas.
