Midland defeats Dordt 9-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midland scored six runs in the third inning and Dordt was never able to put together a credible threat and lost a 9-2 decision in an elimination game at the GPAC Softball Tournament Midland Bracket on Friday afternoon.
Midland advanced to the finals with the win while Dordt’s season came to a close.
The Warriors scored two in the second and another six in the third for an 8-0 lead before Dordt got on the board.
Carley De Roin doubled to drive in one run and Brooklyn Van Oort had a ground out to cut the gap to 8-2.
Midland promptly responded with a run in the fourth and neither team scored the rest of the game for the 9-2 decision.
Dordt as outhit 9-3.
Rachel Evavold, Carley De Roin and Hope Veldkamp all had base hits.
Evavold took the loss while giving up six earned runs in two innings of work with a strikeout.
Tianna Soodsma pitched the final four innings and was charged with two runs and walked one with one strikeout.
Dordt’s season comes to a close with a 19-23 record while Midland advances to face Jamestown in the title game of the bracket with a 30-9 record.
