The Dordt College softball team fell 8-0 to Valley City State in the opening game of their double-header on Friday.

The Defenders managed only two hits in the game and struggled to slow the Valley City State offense.

Marlia Mundorf got the start for Dordt and pitched all four innings.

The Vikings knocked in three runs in the opening inning to take the early lead. Three strikeouts in a row in the second inning by Emily Smith put Valley City State quickly back in the batters box.

The Vikings scored another run in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third. No serious threats came in the top of the fourth for Dordt and another run in the bottom of the inning by the Vikings ended the game due to the mercy rule.

Marlia Mundorf pitched the entire game and gave up seven earned runs.

Jessica Oules and Carley De Roin had the two hits for the Defenders.

Dordt will face off against Jamestown on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Northern State at 5:00 p.m.
