Morningside defeats Dordt 8-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College lost an 8-3 game two decision with the Morningside Mustangs in GPAC play on Saturday, April 21 in Sioux Center.
The Mustangs scored two in the first inning and another two in the second to take control of the game.
Dordt rallied with two in the fifth on a double by Colton Van Otterloo that pushed Neuroth across. Van Otterloo later scored on a Josh Van Eps ground out to cut the lead back to 4-2.
Morningside scored one in the sixth. Dordt answered in the seventh with Nate Psyck leading off the inning with a double and Josh Van Eps followed with a two out double to make it 5-3. The Van Eps double came after Dordt had a pair of line shots to the left-center gap and the leftfield line caught on the run.
Two in the top of the eighth capped the scoring for Morningside and Dordt stranded two in the ninth in falling 8-3.
Dordt was outhit 15-9.
Van Otterloo, Van Eps, Psyck and Trent Roose all had doubles for the Defenders.
Roose was 3-5 and Chris Schrieber was 2-4 with a pair of singles.
Van Eps knocked in a pair of runs.
Schrieber went the distance for the Defenders and allowed seven runs with a walk and three strikeouts.
Dordt is 9-21 overall and 6-15 in the GPAC.
Morningside is 16-21 this season and 10-10 overall.
Dordt is scheduled to host Northwestern on Tuesday.
